Handbook
Rule # 1

Have Fun!

That is why we're here. the HAVE FUN. For me and likel every one else who signs up here, writing stories based in the Star Trek Universe is a fun leisure activity. Ultimately, Vanguard is just that. It's a leisure activity. It's a writing site sure enough but more so it's a community of people with a common interest. We all like sci fi, and we all like hanging out with other likeminded folks. We didn't get together to see who could get promoted faster or move up the chain. In fact that's why I have decided that on Vanguard there will be NO chain. Rank is a purely In Character thing. There are no "forum Ranks" or "Admiralty" here. there is an admin (Me! :-D ) , and there are sim leaders, and there are registered members. There are no hidden forums where the "admins" will flock to talk about you behind your back. (We'll do that via PM or IM like civilized folk!).

That's also why we don't sign up on the forums with character names. We use our real names, or nicknames if you prefer, but I want to stress the fact that in character and out of character are two seperate realms. How many times have you seen that guy (You know… THAT guy!) who thinks that just because under his avatar are some pips in a box, that he runs the show? How many times have intra-site politics got the best of a promising RPG site? I've lost count! So we'renot doing it here. Here, we're going to make some friends, tell some stories, and have fun. Period. The End.. fin….

So that's Rule one. HAVE FUN! Pretty simple right? I think so.

Rule # 2

NO OOC Drama!

We covered this a bit in Rule #1, but it's important. So I'll give it another go. Look, I know that people don't always get along. We're going to have arguments, bad blood and all the other fun little bits of friction when we start getting different people from different places with different ideas together in one place. I know that. I ANTICIPATE that. However! We're all adults or damned close to it, and we are simply not going to use the forum as a place to air our RL differences. What you can do if you've got an issue with another player is take it to PM or IM. Send an e-mail. Write a letter… call them on the phone. I don't care if you send a telegram. but what will NOT happen is that you will NOT bicker on the forums. I have zero patience for petty bickering and I am not unfamiliar with the delete button. As in accounts. As in We're here to follow Rule # 1. And if you stay true to the first rule, then the second one is a non isue. So… there we go. No OOC Drama.

Well that's the rules folks. There are only two. Pretty easy right?

Now let me explain how the logistics of this site are actually going to work. We'll start with Admissions….

First, you'll want to fill out a character app on the main site. Once you've mailed that sucker, you need to register on the forums. You'll see that a sign in thread has been created for you. You will sign in and be given a scenario to reply to in character. Once you've finished the scenario, you'll be asked to choose a sim to be a part of. Generally this list will consist of all the sims on the site. However, each Sim Leader reserves the right to accept or refuse members to his or her sim so if you've got a specific sim in mind you may want to get with that sim leader during the admissions phase.
